Biography

Mrs. Rita Fleming is an Assistant Professor of Health Education in the Department of Human Sciences in the College of Agriculture at Tennessee State University.

She has worked for 29 years in the field of nutrition, community development and grant management. In her present role at Tennessee State University, she provides education in programs related to Living with Chronic Conditions, Eat Well Live Well with Diabetes, The Active Brain for Seniors and Emergency Preparedness for Child Care Centers and Families. Mrs. Fleming also provides statewide educational leadership and development of materials in health education and health promotion intervention for youth, adults and communities. Her publications on health topics for Older Adults are featured each month in the Tennessee Tribune in the special section call for “Seniors Only”.
Her health prevention and health promotion collaborations have been with Health and Human Services in Atlanta, Georgia, Meharry Medical College, Matthew Walker Health Clinic, Metro Health Department, Tennessee Department of Human Services and Vanderbilt University.

She received her B.S. degree from Tennessee State University and the Master of Science from Cumberland University and is presently working on a Doctoral Degree.
