Biography

Dr. Pamela Turner is a Professor and Extension Housing and Indoor Environment Specialist in the Department of Financial Planning, Housing and Consumer Economics, which is located in the College of Family and Consumer Sciences at the University of Georgia (UGA). Since 2005, Dr. Turner has worked with UGA Extension Agents in counties throughout Georgia to increase awareness about how to identify and eliminate health and safety hazards in the home, help people secure safe and affordable housing, and to prepare people to manage emergency situations. She has worked nationally and internationally to promote both healthy homes and early child care education (ECE) environments. She directs the Georgia Radon Education Program, which focuses on increasing testing for radon in air and water.

Dr. Turner is a partner with the National Healthy Homes Partnership (HHP), and works with Extension professionals across the United States to educate all consumers about the connections between housing and health, and how they can improve their indoor environment. The HHP has created Apps and resources on healthy homes issues, including rebuilding after disasters and mold remediation.

In an effort to reach more people in rural counties, Dr. Turner co-founded the Rural Georgia Healthy Housing Advisory Group that focuses on southwest Georgia. Online, she shares information and resources about healthy housing along with the National Healthy Homes Partnership on Facebook and Twitter. Throughout all of her work, she focuses on integrating sustainability into our lives. UGAGreenWay.org provides resources and information to help people live greener and healthier lives.
